Plus que sur la situation en Méditerranée, ces documents apportent un éclairage sur la façon dont un propagandiste au service des Rois catholiques exploite l’événement pour défendre, dans un contexte très local, la politique de ses souverains.In 1481, in response to the occupation of Otranto by the Turks, the Castilian fleet intervened for the first time in the conflict with the Ottoman sultanate. This article analyzes two contemporary documents related to this operation: letters written by Diego Rodríguez de Almela, a canon of Murcia Cathedral, also known for his historiographic work. More than shedding light on the situation in the Mediterranean, these documents illustrate the way a propagandist in the service of the Catholic Kings exploited the event to defend the policy of his sovereigns in a very local context.Cairn free access |
