Scott Momaday, Leslie Silko or Sherman Alexie. As with most ethnic identifying notions, this category is a construction based on various processes: the author’s self (re)presentation, the publishers’ editorial strategies, and the critical discourse that produced it and still promotes it. In reviewing them, this paper raises a main question: does this category “Native American literature” impose norms upon the writers that it encapsulates?Cairn free access
