While women’s entrepreneurship is a research topic that has developed considerably over the last 20 years, there are certain dimensions that researchers have yet to explore. This relates to women’s entrepreneurial scandals. It is also a subject rarely covered by the economic press. Is it because it...

This relates to women’s entrepreneurial scandals. It is also a subject rarely covered by the economic press. Is it because it does not exist, or because it is invisible ? These questions led us to take an interest in a women’s entrepreneurial scandal, which is the story of Elizabeth Holmes, the young founder of the start-up Theranos. We defend the idea that an entrepreneurial scandal is a total social fact (Mauss, 1924; Durkheim, 2017), combining an economic, social, political, technical, and cultural dimension, leading us to focus on the institutional context in which the female entrepreneur is inserted and how she valorizes her resource potential–in other words, her knowledge, financial, and social resources. Cairn restricted access
