It seeks to understand the paradoxical nature of this institution which, although related to the Vichy regime, sheltered Jewish children during World War II. It analyses the way in which Jewish children were cared for during and after the conflict by Roger and Yvonne Hagnauer, two teachers and resistance fighters, who ran the home. It aims to answer the following research question: To what extent were Jewish children treated like any other children at Sèvres during and after the war? This article brings a new perspective to historiography which, until now, has focused mainly on the care of Jewish children by Jewish institutions in the post-war period, paying very little attention to the role played by non-Jewish institutions. It draws on a wide variety of sources, including interviews with former Jewish and non-Jewish children, to analyse their memories.Cairn restricted access
