Shrnutí:Many people in the ghettos tried to document their lives and suffering under persecution. In the ghettos in Lodz and Warsaw, archives were even established with the purpose of recording the experiences for posterity. In November of 1940, the Jewish ghetto administration in Lodz was the birthplace of an archive, whose greatest legacy is an extensive daily chronicle in which the chroniclers recorded almost daily on multiple pages what happened in the ghetto. And in the spring of 1944, when almost all of the Jewish communities in occupied Eastern Europe had already been wiped out, the authors began writing an encyclopaedia of the ghetto to make their texts understandable for subsequent generations to begin with. In the Warsaw Ghetto, on the other hand, a group including historian Emanuel Ringelblum founded an underground archive whose goal was to document as fully as possible and even analyse, in self-written texts, all aspects of the life and death of the Polish Jews during the German occupation.
