The discussion will focus on how territorial expansions impacted, on the one hand, the situation of the respective Jewish population and, on the other hand, the specific development of Jewish persecution in the respective territory as well as their effects on other annexed territories and the German Reich itself. It was not Berlin but rather local conditions, external circumstances and diverging interests of German and non-German players which determined the different forms of anti-Jewish measures in the respective territories. The number of remaining Jews both influenced the specific development in an annexed territory and possibilities for emigration and escape or Germanisation, concentration and deportation plans.Cairn free access
