Riassunto:Dietrich Eckart is generally considered to have been Adolf Hitler’s mentor. One German historian even qualified him as the “midwife” of the future leader of the Third Reich. From the fall of 1919 until his death in 1923, Eckart taught the young politician better public speaking skills, helped him to make contacts among the haute bourgeoisie of Munich and Berlin and even allowed him to obtain funding to acquire the party newspaper. Above all, Eckart was the man who introduced Hitler to the “classic” and more contemporary works of anti-Semitic literature. This article first goes over the main stages of the life of the author beloved by those in nationalist and racist circles. It then shows that Eckart’s influence on the constitution of Hitler’s anti-Semitism was truly decisive during the years directly preceding the writing of Mein Kampf.
