Summary:“I wrote two works: a simple, very aggressive, pamphlet-like work entitled, “Should We Pardon Them?” and Forgiveness, a book of philosophy in which I study forgiveness itself from the point of view of Christian and Jewish ethics.” The present study deals with the paradox encapsulated in Vladimir Jankélévitch’s view of forgiveness, i.e. the conflict between the possibility of a gracious or conditional forgiveness and the radical unforgivableness of the Nazi crimes, which are imprescriptible.
