This propaganda took the form of printed materials distributed by the Wehrmacht’s Afrikakorps and above all, short-wave radio broadcasts from Germany itself. The propaganda was a form of political warfare that complemented Hitler’s unsuccessful efforts to win the war in North Africa. German government archives contain some German-language translations of these broadcasts and some printed materials in Arabic. There they recorded, transcribed and translated several thousand pages based on the hundreds of broadcasts sent to the region, especially from 1941 to 1945. The “Axis in Arabic” texts were one result of the collaboration between Arab exiles in Berlin and the Nazi regime.
