The perspectives of both contemporaries and historians have changed relatively little over time. The youngest generations of researchers have preferred to follow in the footsteps of their famous predecessors, such as Léon Poliakov and Hannah Arendt, rather than break new ground in research or look for alternative explanations. The goal of this paper is to suggest a different perspective and situate the historiographical debate on this issue in a specific context, that of the Italian military occupation in Europe between 1940 and 1943. To this end, this paper analyzes unpublished sources and gives a “revisionist” reading – a loaded but intentionally chosen term – of the sources that were frequently used long before the author took an interest in this topic.Cairn free access |
