| الملخص: | This article discusses specific themes in Sebald’s work on the Holocaust. Specifically we study his autobiography, which was marked by the “conspiracy of silence,” his perception of the post-war reconstruction as a negation of the past, the role of collective amnesia in his poetics of memory and his critique of progress as “irresistible regression.” Sebald’s main characters, who are haunted by ghosts, experience history as trauma and suffer from survivor syndrome. This article also analyzes the different literary tools that Sebald uses to explore the Holocaust, including images, allegory and documentary writing. |
