Résumé:Theodor Adorno’s famous quote, “To write poetry after Auschwitz is barbaric,” puts forth one of the most complex questions ever raised by art about the Holocaust. Namely, how can we render the invisible visible? By examining Adorno’s quote, this article aims to provide a critical overview of German literature’s varying approaches to the Holocaust and the memory of the Holocaust from the post-war period to today.
