Shrnutí:13,720 mentally ill or mentally handicapped persons were murdered in the National Socialist killing centre Pirna-Sonnenstein during 1940 and 1941. It was one of six killing centres established under the code name “Aktion T4”. In the summer of 1941 over a thousand prisoners from concentration camps were also murdered in Pirna-Sonnenstein as part of “special treatment 14f13”.The victims primarily included sick persons and those unfit for labour but also Jewish and political prisoners. The first transports of 269 people took place from 3 to 7 June 1941 coming from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp followed by two transports in July, when 187 prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp were deported to Pirna-Sonnenstein. The murders in Pirna-Sonnenstein reached its sad height in the mass gassing of 575 Auschwitz prisoners, nearly all of them Poles, in late July 1941.
