Résumé:Historians and the Zentrale Stelle of LudwigsburgThe Zentrale Stelle (Central Office of Judicial Administration) of Ludwigsburg is currently a preferred meeting place for experts on World War II. The judicial research, based on preliminary investigations of crimes committed by the National-Socialist state, which was carried out for more than fifty years, resulted in the creation of a major Holocaust Studies archival funds. The purpose of this article is to stress the permanent contact between historians and the Zentralle Stelle of Ludwigsburg since its creation in 1958. The article also aims to demonstrate how documentation resulting from judicial research has unexpectedly become – against all the expectations of West German jurists – the main research issue in contemporary history.
