Description
Summary:The Role of Lublin District in the “Final Solution of the Jewish Question”When Lublin region was conquered by German troops, it was a rather remote area at the periphery of German rule. But already in 1939 it was envisaged to install a “Jewish reservation area” there, a plan which failed. Lublin acquired its special function for the Holocaust during the second half of 1941, when the SS and Police leader Odilo Globocnik was entrusted with setting up extermination camps in his realm. In summer 1942 he was entrusted in killing all Jews from the General Governement and Bialystok area. Globocnik also wanted to set up a system of forced labor camps for Jews, but all inmates were killed in November 1943.
