Thanks to negotiations conducted on Christian and Jewish sides by remarkable personalities, the breaking point was avoided and the crisis mainly resolved in 1993.The central situation of Auschwitz as a universal site of the Shoah was strengthened. At the same time the catholic magisterium become aware of the urgency to make known Judaism, a task situated in the consequences of Vatican II and which becomes obvious after the silence concerning the genocide during the Second World War and the immediate postwar years.Cairn free access
