Zusammenfassung:A critical-analytical overview of the exaggerated claims of rescue of Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust advanced by or in behalf of various German and Hungarian governmental and political figures as well as Jewish communal leaders. This article focuses on the myths and realities relating to the rescuing of (1) the Jews of Budapest ; (2) the 1 684 Jews in the so-called Kasztner Transport ; (3) the thousands of Jews transferred to Strasshof, Austria ; (4) the approximately 80 prominent Orthodox Jewish leaders ; (5) the Weiss-Chorin families ; and (6) the “thousands of Jews” across the Hungarian-Romanian border.
