Zusammenfassung:Rena Molho, Historian and Professor at the University of Athens, is the worldwide specialist of the history of the Jews in Greece. In her essay, she explains how, in two years – and unlike the fate of the Jews of Athens – the largest Jewish population of the Greek world, “the Jerusalem of the Balkans”, Thessaloniki, was murdered by Nazi Germany, often helped – more in Thessaloniki than anywhere else in Greece – by local accomplices. The destruction of this historical and rich community also raises several questions such as the information, resistance and, in fine, the behaviour of the Jewish leaders.
