Each includes an unflinching encounter with the agonies of the concentrationary universe as an essential step in the process of integrating the Holocaust experience into the identity of its protagonist. The narrative strategies adopted in each case include powerful elements of the fantastic as a means of penetrating prohibited regions of the psyche and the culture and reclaiming the suppressed experience of the Holocaust.
