Shrnutí:On September 26, 1940, Walter Benjamin committed suicide in Port-Bou, after he escaped the German occupation and the Vichy regime. He was first buried in the town's cemetery in 1945, then, after the money found on him came to an end, his body was transferred to a paupers' grave.
