The particular significance of this organisation within the Parisian collaborationist scene, together with the personality of its secretary general, Captain Paul Sézille, undoubtedly account in part for this shortcoming. This article, derived from a recent perusal of the archives of the IEQJ kept at the CDJC, greatly contributes to a better understanding of an organisation which, over a period of some thirteen months, from May 1941 to June 1942, served as French cover for the German occupying authorities, for the purpose of implementing a Nazi-inspired anti-Semitic policy. In this study, the three authors focus their attention on issues concerning the operation of the Institute, in particular by examining the relations built up between Paul Sézille and the German national Theodor Dannecker, head of the section for ‘Jewish Affairs' of the SD in Paris to which the Institute was attached, whilst also studying the action of the Institute as a collaborationist headquarters for anti-Semitic propaganda. Finally, the authors steadfastly pursue their exploration of a wide-ranging corpus of letters addressed to the Institute, requests for information, letters requesting affiliation and especially messages received from informants.Cairn free access
