| Zusammenfassung: | The “National Redoubt” is still a key issue in recent Swiss military history. In Switzerland, it is also a source of sharp controversies between “critical” historians and their “realist” counterparts. For the former, the Redoubt is a concession to the Third Reich with the partial demobilization of troops on the Swiss Plateaus and the reassigning of the labor force to industries exporting to Germany. “Realist” historians consider the Redoubt strategy as a whole and not just a military response to circumstances surrounding the summer of 1940. After 1945, the idea reappeared during the Cold War with an “Iberian Redoubt” and an “Italian Redoubt”. Indeed, in 1947, one of Frances battles against the Soviets was considered to be doomed from the start. |
