Furthermore, the Tapissier (“upholsterer”) of Notre Dame is considered the first general to command large armies and one of the few to have managed to maneuver them during a period often associated with defeats and blockades related to the Spanish War of Succession. This article traces the main logistical, operational, technical, and tactical evolutions of the moment ; during which, according to Guibert, “the way of doing things changed”.
