Sumari:History is the theatre of many tragedies. How many destinies and lives have been broken ? Though Aiglon (1811-1832) summarized his life thusly : “my birth and my death, that is my story,” the Emperor had another son, who had the time to state who he was and what he wanted before he died : the Prince Imperial (1856-1879). Studying his correspondence allows us to draw an often endearing portrait of someone who could have reigned under the name of Napoleon IV : a sincere young man, with ambitions for France, endowed with an acute intelligence and exceptional maturity.
