This article argues that understanding this process requires a concomitant investigation into the role of sexual identity. Thus, although an individual’s place of residence and their value system necessarily modulate the politicizing effects of the Left’s rise to power and the advent of “Marriage for All,” it is essential to consider the feeling of belonging to the gay and lesbian community if we wish to understand the impact of these two events on the political socialization of homosexual people in France. Cairn restricted access
