What makes exoplanets political ?In order to bridge political science and STS, Latour offered, in a series of papers published in the mid-2000s, a conceptualization that equates politics with the trajectory followed by technoscientific controversies. French political scientist Pierre Favre has critized his approach. Our paper takes the opposite stance and argues that the model advocated by Latour is perfectly acceptable to political science since it draws heavily on pragmatism, which in turn strongly influenced public policy analysis. We put forward that whilst getting closer to political science, Latour unfortunately moves away from his famous theory “science is politics by other means”. In doing so, he gives up the attempt to understand what makes science politically unique. To support our claim, we use the case of exoplanets discussed by Latour and Favre.Cairn free access
