Beckett was subjected to maternal hainamoration, and his entire work is permeated by its effects and his attempts to escape it. This long discourse, addressed to his mother and Bion, written under the prompting of his inner voice, describes the terrifying darkness he experienced within him. This coherent and courageous work teaches us much about the effects of maternal hainamoration, and helps us to better understand and help our patients. This article does not aim to analyse Beckett, but to read and listen to his discourse, without relying on biographical elements, apart from hainamoration, moving around in it in all directions in order to identify the significant and insistent elements – exclusion, doubt, the disorganised body, frozen time, alienation, the original death, the mother, the woman, fatherhood, words, the shell, confinement, etc. – and their possible evolution. Indeed, unconscious discourse does not follow a linear chronology. Cairn restricted access |
