Blood weddingIn this text I review some treatments of women conducted by women in which a frightening maternal imago manifests itself, sometimes too quickly, from the outset. These analyses can sometimes leave the analyst feeling thrown into a « perfect storm » with few possibilities of survival. The powerful, uncontrollable waves seem to come from both the paternal and maternal imagos in the transference; there is no refuge. Abensour reminds us that the archaic does not necessarily belong to something anterior but rather to something opaque. In this article, I will analyse two clinical cases examples to illustrate how previously unrepresentable, terrifying childhood experiences come to be represented in the deferred action of the analytic process. Cairn free access
