Nicolas Martin-Breteau revisits fifty years of African American history in light of the “1619 Project.” Thomas Constantinesco and Cécile Roudeau suggest approaching the nineteenth century as a “vast archive” of “fruitful anachronisms” through the lens of environmental and medical humanities. Caroline Hildebrandt examines new tools of literary history—longue durée, transitions, systems—that make periods ever more fluid. Agnès Delahaye focuses on deconstructing the colonial discourse underlying revolutionary periodization, while Benoît Tadié traces the transatlantic genesis of noir fiction. Together, these contributions call for a decolonization of established temporalities, a multiplication of analytical scales, and the inception of alternative temporalities capable of renewing American Studies epistemology.Cairn restricted access |
