Sumari:This article addresses the issue of the place of white activists within the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), founded in 1960 as an interracial organization before becoming an exclusively African American organization in 1966. The debates within SNCC illustrate how the question of joint political activity within the same organization was raised at the time. The point is to show how this period marked a turning point towards a radical rejection of white paternalism, in connection with the rise of Black nationalism. This research is based on testimonies, interviews and memoirs of white SNCC activists, as well as on the numerous documents and reports produced by this group.
