Nous voulons nous concentrer en particulier sur le rôle joué par la gauche marxiste étatsunienne. La politique du Parti communiste, rallié à l’effort de guerre, a été analysée par Maurice Isserman, mais la persistance d’une opposition à gauche, considérée comme marginale, a été moins documentée. Nous proposons de comprendre dans quelle mesure les petites organisations trotskistes ont pu profiter d’un espace politique laissé vacant par le CPUSA, en se faisant les porte-paroles du mécontentement des travailleurs et des revendications noires.
