Miêu tả
Tóm tắt:This essay suggests that photography was widely used, around 1900, to hail Pittsburgh as the city of the future. In the illustrated press and in countless photo albums, pictures of parks, cultural institutions and model factories drove home the equation between industrial efficiency and social well-being. In these types of publications, photography contributed to the self-promotion of Pittsburgh as an American utopia in progress, countering some of the fears raised by massive industrialization.
