Facial explosion can be considered as a monstrification, but it is above all a showing, a monstration, which is exhibited to the other’s gaze. Based on a clinical analysis, the assumption of a partial melancholic identification to the dead face explains both symbolic inscription of the face’s fragility and the paradoxical rebirth that the facial fracas involves: by destroying the face, the object of a failing gaze in early childhood, the patient can break free from this identification and get a feeling of existing.Cairn free access |
