As well as publishing several important works, including Le Mas Théotime (ed. Charlot, 1945), which won the Renaudot Prize, during this very complicated period he edited the magazine Aguedal (around twenty issues, suspended at the start of the war, and a few offprints). Because of its longevity and the richness of its summaries, and because it was rooted in the Arab and Berber environment without equal among the North African journals of the colonial period, Aguedal represents a major element in the literary history of North Africa. It was the crucible for a reflection, thwarted by the war, on an ‘oriental metaphysics’ inspired by the doctrine of René Guénon, which would irrigate part of contemporary Moroccan literature, in Arabic or French, thanks to intellectuals such as Mohamed-Aziz Lahbabi or Ahmed Sefrioui.C’est chose peu connue : l’écrivain provençal Henri Bosco (1888-1976) a passé près de 25 années au Maroc, entre 1931 et 1955. Outre la publication de plusieurs ouvrages importants, notamment Le Mas Théotime (éd. Charlot, 1945) prix Renaudot, il y dirigea durant cette période très compliquée la revue Aguedal (une vingtaine de numéros avec une suspension au début de la guerre, et quelques tirés-à-part). Par sa longévité comme par la richesse de ses sommaires, son ancrage en milieu arabe et berbère sans équivalent parmi les revues nord-africaines de la période coloniale, Aguedal représente un élément majeur de l’histoire littéraire au Maghreb. Elle a été le creuset d’une réflexion, contrariée par la guerre, sur une « métaphysique orientale » inspirée de la Doctrine guénonienne qui irriguera une partie de la littérature marocaine contemporaine, de langue arabe ou française, grâce à des intellectuels tels que Mohamed-Aziz Lahbabi ou Ahmed Sefrioui.Cairn restricted access
