Riassunto:The restoration work following the fire in 2019 provided the opportunity for new observations concerning the polychromies of the western portals of the Cathedral. The use of closeup photographs and the results of physico-chemical analyses make it possible to propose the reconstruction of the original color scheme of one of the prophets of the arches. The comparison of this with other polychromies of 13th century portals is intended to identify the aesthetic aims of Parisian painters. The study thus leads not only to a better understanding of the colored aspect of one of the most emblematic ensembles of 13th century monumental sculpture, but also emphasizes the impact of polychromies on the work of the sculptor and his way of modeling his work.
