| Riassunto: | What happens to economics when it is imagined by artists? And what happens to artists for whom, according to Mallarmé’s celebrated aphorism, “Everything comes down to Aesthetics and Political Economy”? It is little known, but quite a number of artists, from the end of the 19th century to the present days, have turned themselves into economists for a while and have written down genuine short treatises and essays on the subject, aspiring no less than to renew the discipline of economics entirely. This project proposes to go through some of these texts and examine their pertinence for the present days. Whether they had a university education in economics (Vassily Kandinsky or Robert Filliou), or they constructed their theoretical conception of art in dialogue with economists (William Morris or Joseph Beuys), or they elaborated an entire theoretical system (Asger Jorn or Isidore Isou), these artists provide us with a rich and singular vision, of both the economic thought of their time and of today’s concerns. |
