Samenvatting:Recent developments in geopolitics and conflicts have transformed the modes of warfare and the resolution of international crises. In this new context, it is more important than ever to understand the causes of shifts in the equilibrium between nations, oscillating between competition, contestation and confrontation. We draw lessons for strategy, diplomacy, the determination of war aims and the duration of confrontations.
