It explores the motivations of these young recruits while highlighting the importance of the military reserve as a complementary solution. The data reveal a high turnover rate and significant challenges linked to the professionalization process initiated 25 years ago. The study also examines the impact of military careers on the personal and professional lives of service members. In conclusion, the article emphasizes the need to rethink recruitment and training strategies to meet both the operational requirements and societal expectations of the armed forces.Cet article analyse les enjeux sociologiques et organisationnels liés au recrutement et à l’engagement des jeunes dans les forces armées françaises, dans un contexte de difficultés persistantes en matière d’attractivité et de fidélisation des effectifs. Il interroge les motivations de ces jeunes recrues tout en soulignant l’importance de la réserve militaire comme solution complémentaire. Les données révèlent une forte rotation des effectifs et des défis liés à la professionnalisation, engagée depuis 25 ans. L’étude aborde aussi les impacts des carrières militaires sur la vie personnelle et professionnelle des engagés. En conclusion, l’article souligne la nécessité de repenser les stratégies de recrutement et de formation, pour répondre aux besoins opérationnels et sociétaux des armées.Cairn restricted access
