Since 2012, this status allows them to contribute to retirement pension schemes, for instance. However, such legal recognition still does not grant these athletes a proper professional status, and their activity is not recognized as labour - those who obtain the status are left in a difficult in-between. This article attempts to explain why this archaism is maintained. I argue that it is because this situation fits the logics of management: the insecurity of athletes is an efficient means to control them.
