The tensions that opposed parties during Lebanese civil war are not necessarily reproduced in conflictual terms among civilian populations. It appears that civilians more try to overcome these tensions by demonstrations of solidarity. This solidarity once organised, articulates itself among groups no longer united randomly but mooved by community of interest. For instance, these groups can cultural, such as artist collectives, or reading clubs, or driven together into the same social activism, such as today’s NGOs, thus creating a specific form of civil society. How this civil society managed to freely emerge from political and religious tensions, to overcome its conflictual roots and to structure itself outside the conflictual environnment ? This study will use ‘Amel and the Imam Sadr Fundation as case study to explore how these NGOs used the conflictual environnment to gather ressources and overcome the tensions from where they were initially rooted.Cairn free access
