A close analysis of the text, through the prism of theological, psychiatric and literary sources, shows that what is at stake, in the fate of the beggar reiterating the walk towards death, is the incarnation that is typical of this kind of narratives, that is to say the divine voice of conscience. Thus, in line with romantic poetology, the inside becomes the outside and the invisible makes itself visible. Cairn free access
