People with this syndrome develop excessive emotional attachment to their animals, confusing their well-being with that of the animals. Consequences include unhealthy living conditions for animals and individuals, mental and physical health problems, and social repercussions. Treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and social support. Interventions aim to raise awareness, reduce animal hoarding and improve the well-being of both individuals and the animals concerned.Cairn restricted access
