In the framework of this program, Ecuadorian women were given an unprecedented role in the future society : the women of the renewed nation were not only wives and mothers but also agents of economic and ideological change. The liberals were keen to grant women access to the labor market, education and civil rights. The impact of these reforms on women’s situation was limited, however, and their social position changed only gradually over time. Nonetheless, the liberal policy towards women facilitated emancipation in Ecuador through the emergence of a new feminine subject, claiming and defending her right to participate in public life.Cairn free access |
