The aim is to explore the advances, but also the limitations, of a minor tradition in the anthropological study of kinship—formalised by Bronislaw Malinowski and continued empirically by Isaac Schapera and Meyer Fortes—which focuses on procreation, infancy, tender care, family life and education; in short, on parenthood as we understand it today.Entre la fin des années 1920 et les années 1960, on voit se développer quelques travaux autour du concept de parenthood (parentalité), à partir de recherches ethnographiques en Afrique. Cet article éclaire ce développement des recherches dans le domaine des études de la parenté. Il précède et explique en partie l’orientation des travaux majeurs d’Esther N. Goody. Il s’agira ici de sonder les avancées, mais aussi les limites, d’une tradition mineure de l’étude anthropologique de la parenté — formalisée par Bronislaw Malinowski, poursuivie empiriquement par Isaac Schapera et Meyer Fortes — portant sur la procréation, la petite enfance, les tendres soins, la vie familiale et l’éducation ; en somme sur la parentalité, telle que nous l’entendons de nos jours.Cairn restricted access |
