The aim of this article is to try to understand the reasons for the creation of such a text, and to produce a critical edition.La légende du chanoine de Cambremer est sans doute une des plus connues de Normandie. Elle se présente cependant sous une forme peu semblable à celle des légendes authentiquement populaires, qui sont bien plus courtes et moins chargées d’éléments historiques, et surtout, il en existe plusieurs manuscrits du xviii e siècle qui montrent que l’on a avant tout affaire à une création littéraire bayeusaine.
