The papers are written in a tutorial style, understandable for non-specialist researchers and students. The goal is to highlight the importance of ma- ematics for practical issues by providing material for educational purposes, such as a course or seminar on mathematical topics of industrial and societal relevance. To ensure the scienti?c quality of the contributions to this volume, each paper was carefully reviewed by several international experts.
