520 |a Daniel Thurer, Professor at the University of Zurich, dedicates his course to international humanitarian law or "law of armed conflict" or "law of war". He studies the ways by which international law tries to "humanize" organized violence. But Daniel Thurer`s ambitions are not limited to the battlefield. In his study, he explores the complexity of the ways and means that the law uses to regulate the way of waging war, in theory and in practice. Daniel Thurer studies treaties and other sources of international law and also focuses, beyond the letter of the texts, on the influence of culture, on the formulation of the norms of the law of war, on the institutions which develop these norms and work toward their universal acceptance, on the networks of humanitarian actors in this field, and on legal procedures integrating the law of war and its various institutions.
